Handle Materials

Magnolia
Magnolias are large flowering trees. The wood is soft and light in color, and Magnolia handles are the most popular in Japan. They provide a textured grip to prevent slipping while cooking. Available in D-Shape, Octagonal, & Round shaped handles.
 
Shitan Rosewood
Shitan is a strong and heavy wood. The color varies from dark red to dark brown with black grain. The wood is durable and dense. Available in D-Shape, Octagonal, & Round shaped handles. Limited quantities are made.
 
Enju
Enju wood is dark brown with light grain. The tree is native to Asia. Enju wood is very strong, and after polishing it has a smooth finish. Available in Octagonal shaped handles.
 
Hiba
The Hiba is a medium to large tree, native to Japan. This tree is planted around Japanese temples and gardens. Hiba wood is durable and has a natural aroma similar to cedarwood. The essential oils contained in the wood make them naturally fungicidal and effective against bacteria. Available in Octagonal shaped handles.
 
Yew
Yew Yew trees are slow growing trees. Yew wood has shades of orange and tan with beautiful contrasts in grain. The wood is hard and flexible, which makes it popular to use in the production of tools and long bows. It has a smooth finish after polishing. Available in Octagonal shaped handles.
 
Ebony
Ebony is a dense and heavy wood. The color is usually dark brown to black. It has a very smooth finish after being polished, which makes it a valuable ornamental wood. Limited quantities are available making it a rare commodity. Available in Octagonal shape handles.
